United Way Organizes Mascot Race To Raise Funds For Kids In Need

The United Way of Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo is ensuring kids have the tools they need to succeed in school.

The organization is partnering with the Fort McMurray Giants for a Mascot Race with cash donations and school supplies being given to their Tools for School program.

Lindsey Bradbury is Community Investment Coordinator with United Way and she tells Fort McMurray News selecting the winner of the race could win you a cash prize.

“We’ll be selling tickets like a 50-50 and you pay $5, you make a prediction and you can bet on one of the mascots and whichever one wins the race, your name will be entered into a draw to win the 50-50 prize.”

There will be five mascots competing in the race.

Bradbury says it is just a fun way to encourage helping these families in need.

“Our Tools for School program assists children and families that are unable to buy the supplies they need for the school year so, this just gives them a little push to help them be more ‘school ready’.”

The Tools for School Mascot Race takes place on Thursday during the 7th inning of the Giants-Regina Red Sox game at Shell Place.
