Syncrude is working to stabilize plant operations following a fire at its site north of Fort McMurray. The blaze broke out shortly before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday
in the Mildred Lake Upgrader. One person was sent to hospital in serious but stable condition as a result.
The fire was deemed under control Tuesday night, meaning workers were to report for their night shift.
Syncrude’s Media Relations Advisor Will Gibson tells Fort McMurray News most employees were back at their regular posts on Wednesday morning.
He notes they have restricted access to part of their upgrader and the surrounding areas.
“This is because we’re starting to assess the damage from the fire yesterday, as well as, stabilize plant operations.”
Gibson says they still don’t know how the fire has impacted production.
He adds a thorough investigation will now be done to determine the cause of the fire.
