UPDATE: Two Men Facing Kidnapping Charges After High Speed Chase

Two men are facing a number of charges after a high-speed chase.

On June 29, around 7:00 p.m, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a fight in a Timberlea area. Shortly after, they received another call about a man being put into a trunk of a vehicle.

46-year-old Norman Rudy Andrews was arrested after police initiated a traffic stop - at which point, 38-year-old Aaron Donald MacPhail moved from the passenger to the driver side and fled the scene.

Mounties say after a pursuit through the Thickwood area, they deployed a spike belt - which ended the chase off Highway 63, after the suspect crashed into a barrier near Confederation Way.

The victim wasn’t in the trunk, however, he was quickly located and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As a result, Andrews is facing eight charges for kidnapping, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, robbery, forcible confinement, assault causing bodily harm, breaking and entering, and uttering threats.

MacPhail has been charged with similar offences including failing to stop or remain at a collision, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, failure to comply with conditions, and theft under $5000.00.

The two are still in custody and will appear in a Fort McMurray courtroom on July 9.
