A 2,000 hectare wildfire has closed down Highway 63 this afternoon.
The blaze is burning roughly 50 kilometres south of Fort McMurray and all traffic is being rerouted to Highway 881.
Winds are pushing the fire towards the highway and smoke is visible in the area, but no residences are in danger.
Full resources including air tankers, helicopters and ground-based firefighters are battling the blaze.
The duration of the highway closure is unknown and Fort McMurray News will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
