WinterPLAY Set To Celebrate Another Year

WinterPLAY is right around the corner and the RMWB has a number of fun activities and events for the public to enjoy.

The winter-based festival has been celebrated for over a decade and this year, it just so happens to be running concurrently with the Alberta Winter Games.

Community Strategist Coordinator with the RMWB Roxanne Andres feels this likely means more traffic than usual for WinterPlay.

She tells Fort McMurray News having the Winter Games run the same weekend should have a positive impact.

“The majority of everything at WinterPLAY is outside whereas the Games have some indoor activities. So, you can be outside for a bit to celebrate or inside for a bit. It also brings visitors in. So, this year we get to show our wonderful region to other parts of the province.”

Access to Snye Point will still be available, however; no vehicles are allowed on the cleared portion of the river and the municipality has parking arrangements in place.

Andres feels WinterPLAY embraces the winter identity of the region.

“We all know the majority of the months of the year in Fort McMurray are winter months. So, this is a nice three day festival for everyone to celebrate winter and enjoy three days of fun.”

WinterPLAY runs from Friday, February 16 to February 18 – with opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed and more information is at rmwb.ca/winterplay.
