Chiquita Boycotts oil sands

EthicalOil.org is calling on all Canadians to boycott Chiquita brands until they reverse their boycott on Canada's ethical oil! Canada's oil is the most ethical in the world. It's produced where workers enjoy the highest standards and rights, women and minorities are treated as equals and environmental standards and regulations are strictly enforced. Chiquita should take a stand against conflict oil from oppressive regimes that abuse human rights and have no concern for the environment.

I had decided that already when I saw that in the news this week. It seems that everyone is against the oilsands. It is our livelihood, we will have to start fighting back with all this negative press.

Many years ago they did the same thing to logging companies. The green tried to get companies to boycott paper, lumber etc. Ah, it didn't work. Nice try though. It is maddening though how some treat the oil sands. I ignore it. Some people seem to think they have to save the planet from these bad oil sands.

I will give you an example of a community back home. They had the biggest population of environmentalist. They protested and complained about anything destroying our planet but they seem to have forgot to look in their own back yards. Here they were pumping their sewer into the ocean. Get this their reasoning was it cost too much fix. So I have lost all respect for those who stand on the roof tops yelling and pointing fingers. We do more here for the environment that many countries. For example our plastic bag bylaw. Not to say we could do more. But one day they will stop pointing their fingers and thank us. :)

Didn't work.......try telling that to all the ex-forestry folks in town. Forest Ethics is here because they destroyed the industry and needed a new bad guy to keep the revenue coming in.

What i meant by it didn't work was the clear cutting continued till the resource was depleted and the companies went bankrupt. IMHO

Still lots of trees to harvest...biggest issue was shareholders got tired of excessive costs compared to competition in US, China, etc. The bulk of those costs were associated with environmental (some justified, some not) projects that were put in in place of bring the equipment up to current standards.....after a decade or more of that they were no longer viable and needed so much investment to make them so it was not worth it. I spent a decade in the business in BC, the stories I could tell.......and when I moved here I told my DIrector that when the enviro groups were done with forestry the Oil Sands were next....he dismissed my comments then.........it is just beginning trust me.

These are folks whose argument is not based on scientific facts...the bulk of the opposition to the OIl Sands (and Keystone) is based on "if we shut down the oil sands it will drive the price of oil through the roof, forcing governments to invest in alternatives". The real agenda is alternative energy! We're a nice target because Canadians are wimps and for the most part we don't tend to shoot protesters or put them in the gulag like Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, etc. Add in the fact that much of Eastern Canada is jealous / contemptuous of Alberta and Americans and we've got a nice big target on our foreheads.
