Fire at Silin Court Apartment in Thickwood 2012

Fire at Silin Court Apartment in Thickwood 2012

A 3 storey building just went up in flames _very_ quickly, across the 4 way stop from the Safeway in Thickwood. I hope everyone got out ok! Unfortunatley lots of lookey-loos driving around too.

Thickwood Heights School @ 96 Silin Forest Road will be opening for Signal Road fire victims.
Displaced residents can also seek shelter at St. Thomas Anglican church right across from the buildings

Having gone thru a home fire and lost everything my heart hurts for everyone involved, praying everyone is ok and only material items lost. Hopefully someone will post a number or info on how to help tenants affected by this...We were very lucky back on the east coast to have a wonderful community that helped us thru our losses.

Seems everyone is alright. At least one cat is probably dead. A lot of people lost everything.

:( so sad , the SPCA is closed as well so they pet owners have no safe refuge for those family members. I hope they all get somewhere to live.

Update from the city
Evacuees will continue to be supported by the Municipality through Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS), where they will be connected with the appropriate community services required. The mainline for NCS is 780-743-7940 and hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. NCS is located on the first floor of the Jubilee Centre, at 9909 Franklin Avenue. Evacuees who did not register at the Emergency Reception Centre are advised to call the NCS main line and register.

Evacuees with questions regarding rental units are to contact the property management company Oaksey Investment Inc. at 780-791-4095 ext. 1. Evacuees are also encouraged to contact their insurance companies.

Fire officials are on scene investigating.

It has been determined that the apartment structure is unsafe, and residents will not be allowed to enter the building at this point.

The structure is an apartment/condo style building, approximately three levels. There were 36 rental units, one of which was an office, and 28 of which were occupied. The number of residents in the complex is unconfirmed though it is estimated somewhere between 50-100 residents have been affected. While the Fire Department is still investigating, there is no indication of casualties.

Evacuees missing pets are encouraged to contact the Fort McMurray SPCA at 780-743-8997, ext. 1.

The Fort McMurray Food Bank, SPCA and Salvation Army are accepting donations, there have also been Facebook pages set up if you wish to donate using these options:
