Good news everyone just got a word form the city about the Thickwood Interchange.
MOT says they plan on opening the interchange this Fall (weather permitting), but no specific dates could be provided.

Details
I think they are also opening up the bridge this fall. Hopefully it will improve the traffic.

Cool. I get it now. I just couldn't see how it was going to work. I pray it works. Driving to work some morning sucks.

According to http://www.fortmcmurraytoday.com/Articl ... ?e=3333077

The long-awaited Athabasca River Bridge is set to open before November. This will provide some much needed relief for Northbound traffic.

Once the bridge opens, its two neighbouring structures are slated to close at some point for rehabilitation work that includes the removal of the trestles on the Grant MacEwan Bridge which will be lowered and curved to filter traffic to the downtown core via Franklin Avenue.

The only issue I see with opening up the Thickwood interchange before the Confederation interchange is finished is that in the morning hours wouldn't it create a serious backload of traffic from people coming from downtown and Thickwood since there will be no lights at the Thickwood interchange but still there will still be traffic lights at the confed intersection and by the Diversified turnoff! Those lights are still going to cause major traffic backups in the morning hours because of a traffic surge!

This will likely be the case. For people community between Timberlea and downtown this should be an improvement though.

My first time to cross the new Athabasca River Bridge heading home. Felt like one of those "ah" moments!
