How cold is the winter in Ft MAC

May be it is too silly to ask this question.
I lived in Calgary for 30 years, this is the first time to move to this place temporarily till August 2013.
Don't know the difference of winter clothings between these two cities
In Calagry, I drove with moderate winter clothings. Then I take transit here in the coming winter.
I imagine, I need to be dressed up like a school kid with ski pants and face mask with hooded heavy down jacket.
Hopefully I won't need a comforter to wrap around myself waiting for the transit....
I did google the average and severe winter temp.
I need some advice and time to prepare this winter. I was too spoiled in the comfort zone
Thank you again

It's dry cold, but it could get to -40 a couple of days during the winter. If you work inside, warm pants and good winter jacket should be sufficient, if you going to spend a lot of time outdoors during wintertime, you'll need some long johns, thermal shirt good gloves and hat. Mark's warehouse has a good selection of warm underwear and other winter gear.

Seemed it is same as Calgary winters, no big deal. All my friends have the same negative impression to Ft Mac winters.
I just worry how to survive without a car here.
Thank you very much

If you work at site, there are buses that take you to work, you'll have to stand outside to wait for one though.
The city's public transit is improving and has good coverage now, the bus tickets are $1.25 each.
It is more convenient to have a car but you can survive without one.

It isn't too windy here so you'll be surprised at how it can be very cold temperature wise.... but it isn't so bad.
Warmer feeling that the prairie because there is little wind.

Make sure you plug your car in though, the temp can drop drastically at night.
