Moving to Fort McMurry

Hi I am due to move to Fort Mc murry in the next couple of months from England to start work as a concrete finisher, I am hoping to gather some useful info so I can be as prepared as possible. My family are looking to join me as soon as possible but a lot to sort out.
I would be grateful if anyone could give me some tips:
Anyone work for Pban enterprises?
Anyone in the concrete finishing industry?
Are foreign workers children entitled to attend school?
How high is the cost of living?
Where in Fort Mc Murry is the best place for a family to live?

Hi Harwell,

Welcome to Fort McMurray. A number of people had the same questions as you did about moving to Fort McMurray, check out newcomers/ and real-estate/ boards, you will find a lot of good information there.

Good discussion about best place to live in the city: real-estate/what-the-best-area-fort-mcmurray-t291.html
I believe your children will be able to go school here.

Cost of living is high here, your rent for a family will be in 2-3k range plus food in 1-2k range

Depends how many hours you work, but at 40 hours a week that's 60k a year which is kind of low here. After taxes you will spend most on rent and food with not much left.
Average family income 177k/year

Try to find a a subsidized housing from http://www.wbhadc.ca/ that might help.
