Fort McMurrayite Running Boston Marathon Raising Awareness Of Rare Disorders

A Fort McMurray man is running in this year’s Boston Marathon to help combat rare diseases.

Blake Crossley found out in December that he’d been selected to run in the marathon in April, through the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

For the past two years, Crossley has been racing in marathons in honour of Tessa Booth, a 3-year-old Fort McMurray girl with a rare form of lung cancer.

Draft Released For Moose Lake Management Zone Plan

The province is looking for input on a draft plan for the Moose Lake 10 km management zone.

Back in April of 2014, then premier Jim Prentice assured the Fort McKay First Nation of action to support the protection of land near Moose Lake.

The plan would recognize the significance of these traditional lands to First Nations and Metis people of Fort McKay.

The third and final day of the Alberta Winter Games is underway in the RMWB.

Zone 3 still leads the way after two days of events – with a grand total of 80 medals.

That includes 31 gold, 27 silver and 27 bronze for the athletes from the Calgary area.

Day One of the 2018 Alberta Winter Games is all wrapped.

After a plethora of events including Badminton, Hockey, Skiing and a variety of other sports – Zone 3 leads the medal count with 35 medals.

With the lighting of the torch at MacDonald Island – the 2018 Alberta Winter Games have officially arrived in the RMWB.

Cenovus Energy Posts Net Earnings of $3.4B in 2017

Cenovus Energy is rebounding after a tough 2016.

On Friday, the oil company released their 2017 and fourth quarter results which saw net earnings of $3.4 billion compared to a loss of $545 million in the year prior. In the fourth quarter alone, the company saw net earnings around $620 million.

Production increased by 76 per cent year over year which included the Christina Lake oilsands, located around 150 km southwest of Fort McMurray.

Syncrude Marks Bison Ranch 25th Anniversary

For twenty-five-years, wood bison have been roaming reclaimed land at Syncrude’s Beaver Creek Wood Bison Ranch north of Fort McMurray.
