RCMP Respond To Medical Emergency On Supertest Hill

A medical emergency on Highway 63 got the attention of Wood Buffalo RCMP.

On July 18, around 3:00 p.m., police received a call about an individual in distress around Supertest Hill.

The Mounties stopped southbound traffic for less than 30 minutes while they, and medical emergency personnel, assisted the individual.

The person was eventually transported to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre for medical treatment.

Lots Of Love For Little Layla: Girl’s Cancer Treatment Gains Community Support

A GoFundMe page has been started to help a little Fort McMurray girl receive cancer treatment.

Three-year-old Layla Cox was admitted to hospital back on July 2, when her parents Chelsea and Jamie realized she was having trouble walking and was dealing with pains in her belly and back.

Since then, Layla’s mother says the page – which was started by her friend Jenna Ricketts – has generated nearly $11,000.

Police Reminding Of Dangers Of Distracted Driving

Drivers in the RMWB have been getting slightly more distracted at the wheel this year.

According to Media Relations Officer of the Wood Buffalo RCMP Teri-Ann Deobald, as of June 30, 306 tickets have been handed out for distracted driving in comparison to 274 in 2017.

She tells Fort McMurray News the increase is likely circumstantial.

Fossil Remains of Marine Reptile Found At Syncrude Mine

Fossil remains of a prehistoric marine reptile were found in Syncrude’s north mine.

Back on June 7, 2018, Scott Fisher – a Geotechnical Instrumentation Technician with Neegan Technical Services – discovered the remains in chunks of rock along the high wall of the mine.

UPDATE: Power Restored Across Wood Buffalo

Power is restored after a massive power outage across Wood Buffalo.

ATCO Electric says Abasand, Beacon Hill, Waterways, Saprae Creek, Gregoire, Fort McMurray International Airport, and parts of downtown, Anzac, Janvier, and Gregoire Lake Estates – had all lost power.

Over 3,100 customers were impacted at the time.
