Trial Continues For Man Charged With 2015 Homicide

“When he decides he’s going to do something, he does it.”

Those were the words from the former girlfriend of Nigel LaFrance, a Fort McMurray man charged with first-degree murder, when Crown attorney Walter DeVenz asked her what was on her mind when her ex-boyfriend suggested robbing and killing Anthony Yasinski, back in March of 2015.

LaFrance was back in court on Thursday, facing charges for the murder of the 26-year-old.

Three Local Projects Receiving Provincial Funding

Three projects in Fort McMurray are receiving a grant from the provincial government.

The money comes from the Community and Regional Economic Support program which looks to promote long-term economic growth and prosperity by supporting different projects.

The three grants were given to Community Futures Wood Buffalo, Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association, and Keyano College.

The CFWB is receiving $67,850 to help shorten the community’s recovering by assisting with their Wood Buffalo Recovery Loan Program. ...

Report: Alberta’s GDP Sees 6.7% Growth, Highest Across Country

After years of minor growth in the province’s economy, this year was a big step in the right direction.

According to the Conference Board of Canada’s latest economic outlook, the province’s GDP saw major growth around 6.7 per cent.

No other province or territory came close as British Columbia and Quebec each saw the second highest with 3.2 per cent growth.
