Just wanted to start a thread to help out all the new comers to Fort McMurray.
What do you think is the best area to live in Fort McMurray and why?

I'll start.
I like Eagle Ridge in Timberlea. It's one of the newer parts of the city, the Birchwood Park is near by, the upper trails are paved, new schools.
Con is that there is only one big groccery store, Extra Foods, which I think overcharges people.

How do u figure Eagle Ridge is near the Birchwood Trails????? If I were to pick a nice area in town it would have to be Beaconhill. Its a quite, secluded neighbourhood. Plus you have all of downtown for shopping and no bridge to cross! However I live in Thickwood which is actually close to the Birchwood trails. Its not bad but a lot more busy than Beaconhill.

I've in timberlea, Thickwood, and abasand and my favorite area was abasand, great area to raise kids cause they stay on the "hill" and it's situated so close to downtown if you need to run to the store on a whim. Timberlea took me a full year to get used to that area and never liked it first or last, so congested and so far from everything. Thickwood, also closer to shopping, mature area, nice trees, and quiet. Would never consider buying in eagle ridge, one drive through that area in the evening says it all. I'm pretty sure I would like beaconhill too, if it was on the north side of the bridge. The new bridges and roads are gonna play a big role in "the best areas to live" in fort Mcmurray.

So what what areas have you lived and what's your favorite area and why?

Beaconhill. Big lots, quiet streets. First and only place I've lived in Ft. McMurray. Over 20 years now. Never had a desire to move elsewhere.

If you look on the map the park is very big and Eagle Ridge is by the north side of the park
The main entrance is in Thickwood I agree

Colourful what's wrong with Eagle Ridge at night?

Dickinsfield has to be the best. Older area, no construction, Mature large lots. It has it own schools. It's right between timberlea and thickwood so a lot of shopping. My yard backs on to the birchwood trails.
I've lived in Beacon hill, timberlea, thickwood. I will never live on the north side of confed ever again. So busy over there. And it's still growing. Beacon hill was nice loved it. but hated the hill in the winter. If shopping was at the top of the hill it would be better.

What type of store? Aything special that can't be found in other stores in the city?

Gregoire still has no grocery store. All they did was "revamp" the shitty little "kwik-e-mart" by OJ's pizza.

I'm pretty sure Colourful is mistaken on which area Eagle Ridge is, by the way they spoke it sounded more like Forest Lawn in Calgary. Eagle Ridge is just as nice as any other part of Timberlea. If you don't like Eagle Ridge, check out the towers that are just on the way to Mac Island

If they put something on the towers to hide concrete walls they wouldn't look so ghetto. The location is very convinient plus the views of the river, too bad they have to look the way they are.
