The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation are heading to Vancouver.
ACFN leadership and Elders will be in Vancouver on Wednesday to defend their appeal of the Federal approval of Shell’s Jackpine Mine Expansion tar sands project.
In its case filed before the Federal Court, ACFN alleges that Canada breached its duties to consult and accommodate them with respect to the Jackpine Mine Expansion Project and the manner in which the Project will impact ACFN’s constitutionally protected section 35 rights.
The ACFN along with British Columbia First Nations and local environmental groups will hold a rally and press conference outside of the courthouse before the hearings begin.
The various groups will speak about the wide scale impacts of tar sands expansion projects.
