Currently, camp operations is exaclty what I'm hoping to find! I've been trying to figure out which companies it is that runs the camps, so I can apply directly to them. While I know it wouldn't be the most money out there.. my plan is to just find anything I can do well out in a camp, so I can save money with housing provided. Once I think I've got enough to go to school, and I have some idea of what course I should take, (after seeing need ect) then hopefully I'd get certified in something.. but 2 years is a long time to spend on food cert, and that's not my life ambition!
I'm considering getting a part time job out here in Ontario at a Tims, learning what I can, and then transfering to a camp location as soon as I can, as I hear they provide accomodations. On my off days, I was thinking of trying to find work at a hotel that would also provide houseing. So I'd be housed all the way around, and learning skills that I could later apply to an "accomodations/logistics/bookings" job with one of the camps. It likely woudln't pay as much as the pipefitters ect, but it shure as hell would likely pay more than 30G. Or, for off days, I would rent a room in a house, and I've seen some affordable places listed on Kijiji, comparable to what I pay in Toronto.
I've been living on $30 G. for the last 10 years. No raises. No hope for retirement, having a car (to get the hell out of this concrete jungle, see family ect) ect.. just getting by.. time for change! I hear there's lots of single men in Fort Mac.. and that there's lots of family oriented growth there :) Some day I want to own a buisness, even if it's just a convinience store. First I need to make the money to buy into/grow a store. Anyway. That's the plan.
Any idea which companies run those camps??! :)
