Rick Mercer to headline The Affair for the Arts
Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre has announced comedian Rick Mercer as the featured performer for the Theatre’s 5th annual fundraising extravaganza. Renamed as “The Affair for the Arts” and presented by CBS Construction, the event will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
Titled “A Nation Worth Ranting About”, this performance will mark Mercer’s first visit to the city since he recorded a segment for the Rick Mercer Report in November 2005.
The news was shared with hundreds of guests attending the Syncrude Arts Alive presentation of Motet, an amazing juggling and circus act featuring Circo Aereo from Finland and Gandini Juggling from Britain.
“Rick Mercer is one of the most recognizable personalities in the country,” said Alan Roberts, Director, Theatre & Arts Centre, Keyano College.
“His hilarious rants, bogus newscasts, political satire, and editorial commentary help define what it means to be Canadian. We are thrilled to be bringing him back to our community for this special evening that celebrates and supports the arts.”
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Mercer has won over 25 Gemini Awards for his top-rated CBC shows The Rick Mercer Report, Made in Canada and This Hour has 22 Minutes. Mercer also starred in Rick Mercer’s Talking to Americans, which was watched by millions, attracted attention across North America, and remains the highest-rated comedy special in Canadian history.
The Affair for the Arts is an extraordinary celebration that includes a pre-show reception sponsored by the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre, a wine tasting presented by the Fort McMurray Opimian Society (featuring 30 vintage wines), and an exclusive silent auction. A post-show party caps off the evening with delightful desserts, specialty coffees and exotic liqueurs.
“To further celebrate the arts, Keyano Theatre has added the talents of some of Alberta’s top emerging artists,” said Claude Giroux, Artistic Director, Theatre & Arts Centre, Keyano College. “The Affair for the Arts will be an evening to remember.”
Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre has been the cornerstone for arts and culture in Wood Buffalo since Keyano Theatre opened its doors in 1980.
